The final full supermoon of the year is in the sign of Taurus, and known as the Beaver or Frost Moon, as it is the time when these creatures are actively preparing for winter and traditionally a time for humans to hunt and prepare pelts to stay warm during the colder months.
This full moon is tightly conjunct rebellious, unpredictable, freedom-fighting Uranus, AKA The Great Awakener, that likes to shake things up in unexpected ways.
TAURUS
After the initiating energetic force of Aries season, Taurus season is a time for communing with the land now that the frost has thawed. It is time to tend to the soil, sow seeds and make preparations for a stable future. It is innately practical, connecting to the material pleasures and senses and delighting in nature and food. This marks the peak of spring, when this season is in its most fixed form and reflects a time of manifestation into the physical. The glyph for Taurus is a bull, symbolizing fertility and agriculture, and also the goddess through its connection to the Moon, seen in its crescent horns and its planetary ruler of Venus. The esoteric ruler is Vulcan, a hypothetical planet named after the god of fire, volcanos and metal work. It illuminates the free flow of will and power for the evolved consciousness of Taurus to see actions through to completion. As a fixed earth sign, it is associated with the process of congelation, of grounding and consolidating to allow for fertility and growth. Copper is its metal, reflecting its ability to ground and conduct information into the earth. Taurus is moist and warm, a receptive sign. It rules the second house: our material world and immediate physical environment. While Taurus explores through the material and tangible, it also learns through its opposite sign, Scorpio, which experiences through the emotional and intangible.
Taurus rules the lower jaw, neck, larynx, throat, vocal cords and ears. The correspondence to sensual pleasures and fixed mid-season modality can cause excess body weight and a refusal to flow, causing stagnation in the energetics and physiology. Oak flower essence supports Taurus when overburdened with the weight of responsibility, and hornbeam helps to lift us out of states of inertia and reluctance. Taurus plants are the plants of Venus. Rose (Rosa spp) is an archetypal plant of Taurus, offering support in developing the strength and grace of the voice. Taurus plants can also be deep-rooted, low-lying and nutrient-dense. They can be fixed earth and astringent. Stagnation, the build up of toxins, and other such complaints of Taurus benefit from lymphatic cleansing herbs like cleavers (Galium aparine) and gentle warming stimulants like sage (Salvia officinalis), which creates movement and supports digestive function.
URANUS
Beyond the physical, earthbound limits of Saturn lies Uranus. Out in the transpersonal domain in the literal heavens, it is also known as ‘father sky to Gaia’s Earth’, ‘King of the Titans’ and ‘father to Saturn’. Its rebellious nature rejects the institutional and cultural structures of Saturn in favour of a higher octave of the individual soul for the benefit of the collective. The modern glyph for Uranus is the arrow of action pointing in the direction of the heavens, while the central dot in the circle of spirit represents the inner wisdom of the soul.
Gaia gave birth to Uranus and, in turn, gave birth to their children, which Uranus despised, insisting that they remain underground, hidden in her body. She appealed to Cronos (Saturn), who castrated his father with a sickle. The blood that fell impregnated Gaia, who gave birth to the Furies, the Giants and the Meliai (ash-tree nymphs). The genitals of Uranus fell to the sea, and turned to foam, from which sprang the goddess of love, Aphrodite.
With a highly eccentric orbit that takes approximately 84 years, and spinning sideways on its axis, Uranus was discovered during the Enlightenment in 1781 by Sir William Herschel. It was a time of revolutions, innovations, electricity and scientific endeavour. This is the signature of Uranus: highly unique and a true visionary; independent, liberated and interested in revolutionizing old structures and cultural institutions. Uranus offers a new lens and a new way of being, and governs robotics, AI, technology and futuristic exploits. Uranus is domicile in Aquarius, detriment in Leo, exalted in Scorpio and in fall in Taurus. With Capricorn, it rules the tenth house of career and ambition. Like Jupiter, it has an association with lightning, which enters into our realms as a flash of inspiration. Uranus transmits new waves of intergalactic information and illuminates our path towards our true essence. The placement of Uranus in a chart can channel an electrical charge or concentration of the vital force in that area.
Uranus, who rules Aquarius in modern astrology, governs electricity in the body and its rhythms, the pulse of the nervous system, the beat of the heart and the rate of flow of the metabolism. Uranus has correspondences to heart attacks, epilepsy, electrical shocks and sudden accidents.
