The largest supermoon of the year, this Aries Full Moon opposite the Libra Sun, will be the closest of the four supermoons to the Earth at approximately 222,055 miles from Earth. With the fields clear after the Harvest Moon, animals were revealed to hunters, giving rise to the name the Hunter’s Moon. According to NASA, alternative names, attributed to the Algonquin of the northeastern United States, include Dying Grass Moon, the Travel Moon and the Sanguine or Blood Moon.

This Aries Moon is conjunct retrograde Chiron, the wounded healer, and we are faced with consolidating our individual wounds with those of the collective. Mars in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn make a grand cross with the Libra Sun and Aries Moon opposition, provoking desires, actions and deepening polarization.

Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto are all retrograde, making this a nostalgic and reflective time as the past and unresolved relationships rise to the surface of the emotional waters of Mars in Cancer, Neptune in Pisces and Venus in Scorpio. It also cranks up the political, financial and meteorological weather forecast.

A Wounded Deer - Leaps Highest

A wounded deer - leaps highest

I've heard the hunter tell;

'Tis but the ecstasy of death,

And then the brake is still.

The smitten rock that gushes,

The trampled steel that springs:

A cheek is always redder

Just where the hectic stings!

Mirth is mail of anguish,

In which its cautious arm

Lest anybody spy the blood

And, "you're hurt" exclaim

  • Emily Dickinson
