‘PROVOCATIONS OF PLACE’ is a creative tool for connecting with landscapes. Each card has a written prompt that serves up a micro-brief. Something to respond to, or push against.
You are invited to create your own, or use the samples here.
Instructions:
Pick a card.
Spend as much time as you want with the provocation.
There is no right or wrong and your response doesn’t need to be literal. Follow your curiosity and do whatever interests you and feels right in the moment.
Considerations:
• What materials or resources do you have?
• What will be your action?
• How will you document this? (does it need to be documented?)
... Draw. Photograph. Collect. Print. Write. List. Make. Perform. Film. Listen. Sing. Dance. Organise. Map. Archive.....

About:
P.O.P has been informed during years of pen pal correspondence between Laura Copsey and Hana Wilde. Actions shared between the city and the Isle of Mull to alter and activate our curiosities.
Some of the provocations have been tested by different crews of the Life of Islands Residency, a creative research expedition led by Laura with Sail Britain in the Inner Hebrides.

'I only once heard them singing' rough demo
by Michael Cranny of Firestations
During the sailing residency, Mike was making and recording sounds. Stitched together back on land, this work in progress demo features (among other things) field recordings, riffs created on a broken guitar warped by sea water, synth drones from the Isle of Rum village hall and percussion from Gometra's water duns; and lyrics inspired by Fairy Hill on Gometra near windy point. Mike and Laura intend to collaborate on an experimental EP and image series.
