JF - What was the last lucid or prophetic dream you had? Do you experience smell in your dreamscapes?
US - I am definitely a dreamer and have intense travels in my dreams but this particular experience was not a dream while asleep but a lucid feeling during a hermetic initiation.
During our initiation circle I had this internal vision of a veiled woman in a very old stone inner sanctum engulfed in frankincense smoke. There was also a single ray of opalescent light filtering into the sanctuary. The woman and the sanctuary felt really familiar. The stone and smoke textures and the incense smell were so vivid and real that I felt sad I couldn’t physically visit it and didn’t know where it was. A deep longing and loneliness set in; I didn’t know who I was or where I came from. The other day at a bookstore I was leafing through the Anna Cassel Saga of the Rose book and saw a series of paintings she did in 1913 of a veiled woman in a stone temple and it looked just like the space I saw and felt in my inner vision. Except the woman in the paintings had a serpent on her head.
JF - If you were put in charge of creating a new universe, what would be your key ingredients for a primordial cosmic soup?
US - This question is wild. I can’t even fathom the idea of a “new” universe. But when I think of the universe I think of precious gems and fine metals as well as vapours and immaterial elements like symbols, sigils and dreams. In my universe every single conceivable “material” is real and exists fully and equally, emerging out of the void and folding back into it.
JF - Of the seven primary alchemical processes which one describes your current state of being?
US - I am definitely in the Dissolution process. I have been feeling like I am being initiated into some sort of a lunar, watery cult for the last two years. I have no idea what’s really happening to me except that I am much more in tune with moon phases and I am really enjoying devotional and ritualistic life. It could also be menopause setting in.
When I first learned about the process of Dissolution I immediately thought of the most delicious fish soup. In Russia it’s called Ukha. It’s a very clear light broth infused with dill and bay leaf, with simple vegetables and fresh water fish, usually trout. This soup reminds me of the image and teaching from the Book of Lambspring by Nicholas Barnaud Delphinas.
Plate 1 from pages 276 and 277:
The Sea as the Body, the two Fishes are Soul and Spirit.
The Sages will tell you
That two fishes are in our sea
Without any flesh or bones.
Let them be cooked in their own water;
Then they also will become a vast sea,
The vastness of which no man can describe.
Moreover, the Sages say
That the two fishes are only one, not two;
They are two, and nevertheless they are one,
Body, Spirit, and Soul.
Now, I tell you most truly,
Cook these three together,
That there may be a very large sea.
Cook the sulphur well with the sulphur,
And hold your tongue about it:
Conceal your knowledge to your own advantage,
And you shall be free from poverty.
Only let your discovery remain a close secret.
